A Fayette County jury has found Billy Joel Polasek guilty of murder in the 2016 death of seven-month-old Logan Atkins, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced.
The jury determined that Polasek was responsible for causing the infant’s death in July 2016. An autopsy revealed that Logan suffered a skull fracture, multiple head contusions, and subarachnoid hemorrhaging, leading to fatal brain swelling. A Travis County medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, concluding that Logan had died from blunt force trauma.
Following the conviction, Polasek was sentenced to life in prison and fined $10,000. The case was thoroughly investigated by the Texas Rangers and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, with support from the Office of the Attorney General’s Criminal Investigations Division. Assistant Attorneys General Joshua Somers and Andrew Rountree represented the State of Texas during the trial.
Polasek’s conviction ensures that justice is served for Logan Atkins and his family, closing a tragic chapter in this heartbreaking case.
