Jackson County, MO – Sasha Townsend from Kansas city, Missouri, was involved in a motor vehicle accident, ad there are reports that she sustained fatal injuries which she later succumbed to. The officials who responded to the scene are yet to o release an official statement regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating a violent road rage incident that escalated into gunfire and a crash on Interstate 470 in Lee’s Summit on Friday afternoon, March 21, 2025.
At approximately 12:45 p.m., Lee’s Summit police responded to reports of shots fired between two vehicles traveling northbound on I-470 near Northeast Lakewood Way. Authorities confirmed that both drivers exchanged gunfire before eventually being located in another jurisdiction following a crash.
Both individuals were taken into custody, and police reported no injuries from the gunfire. Authorities assured the public that there was no ongoing threat.
Road Closures
The incident and subsequent police activity caused significant traffic delays along I-470 and U.S. 40 Highway:
- 2:00 p.m. – Eastbound U.S. 40 Highway closed at I-470 for approximately 45 minutes.
- 2:45 p.m. – Northbound I-470 closed from Strother Road to U.S. 40 for about 20 minutes.
- Traffic delays extended south to Woods Chapel Road as authorities conducted their investigation.
The Lee’s Summit and Independence police departments are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the individuals involved or what led to the escalation of the road rage dispute into gunfire.
