At approximately 5 p.m. on March 19, eyewitnesses reported a heavy police presence and the discovery of a body outside the Muir Biology Building at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
In response to inquiries, UC San Diego University Communications confirmed the incident in an email to The Guardian at 7:30 p.m., stating that an individual had died outside the building. The university also clarified that the deceased was not a student.
“While much of the information related to the incident is not known at present, out of respect for the deceased we are keeping details private at this time,” the statement read.
Earlier, at 6:30 p.m., the Dean of the School of Biological Sciences, Kit Pogliano, addressed the matter in an email to members of the biology department, acknowledging the death and reassuring recipients that there is no threat to the campus community.
As of now, the identity of the deceased and further details regarding the incident remain unconfirmed.
